Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal Ltd
Tuesday, May 10, 2011
Responsible for providing cost down solutions to sub contractors located in the UK and Ireland Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal Ltd will be showing at Tooling 2011 new technology cutting tools capable of improving productivity and reducing tool cost.
Cost saving Ideas
• Improve productivity by shortening cycle times through increasing feed rates
• Boosting feed rates by 30% equates to 52 hours production from a 40 hour week
• A 100% increase in tool life halves the annual cost of carbide inserts.
• Dry machining eliminates the cost of applying and removing expensive coolant
• Reliability at the cutting edge improves operator confidence and reduces the number of cuts
Turning
Switch to Sumitomo high performance grades they are competitively priced and can boost feed rates by 30% and double tool life. Check out the new simplified grades - AC 800 series for steels, AC600 series for stainless steels, AC500 series for high temperature alloys, AC400 series for Irons plus Cermets for low cost high speed finishing – CBN for hard turning – PCD for non ferrous materials.
The introduction of Sumitomo’s new Super FF and Super ZX coatings ultra hard coatings enable sharper cutting edge geometries less prone to failure from plastic deformation and wear.
Ask to see cutting data examples to see how your company could benefit.
Switch conventional lever lock toolholder’s to Double Clamp Toolholders which secure the insert in two directions through lateral (lever lock) and compressive (top clamp) force enabling higher feed rates and increased tool life.
Instantly reduce insert costs by 1/3rd by adding 50% more cutting edges at no extra charge when turning depths up to 2.5mm using T Rex clamped six sided inserts in place of 4 sided DNMG style inserts.
Eliminate chatter by changing steel boring bars to Sumiturn X bars for Improved feed rates and surface finish. The anti chatter head eliminates vibration and is suitable for rough and finish boring applications often replacing expensive carbide and tuned boring bars.
Eliminate grinding operations by using Sumiboron CBN inserts to finish turn hardened steel / sintered iron components.
Use coated tungsten carbide inserts for rough to medium cut turning applications and coated titanium carbide Cermets for low cost high performance finishing operations.
Check out SumiSmall a wide range of mini tools for back turning, copying, part off etc suitable for sliding head autos using Sumitomo high performance inserts.
Milling
The best of both worlds - general purpose indexable insert milling cutters for high feed rates and close tolerances. The precise body and insert design of the 45 Degree WGC milling cutter achieves high quality surface finish and precise tolerances often associated with expensive G class insert from a lower cost M class precision sintered insert, and is suitable for steels, cast irons, and exotic materials.
The aptly named Metal Slash Mill type MSX is a multi purpose indexable insert endmill / shell mill capable of roughing at ultra high feed rates and available in four diameters from 16 – 10mm diameter. The trigon shaped insert s maintain a constant cutting force even when the depth of cut is increased resulting in outstanding reliability and cost effective tool life.
Accommodating the demand for high performance cost effective endmills the competitively priced Global Standard range for roughing and finishing applications feature ultra hard coatings for heavy roughing, new smooth super ZX coatings for general purpose machining and anti weld Aurora DLC coatings for pick up free machining of Aluminium using MQL (minimum quantity lubricant).
Drilling
On balance a better design best describes the new range of WDX indexable insert drills ranging from 13mm – 60mm diameter with drilling depths to 5XD. Because cutting resistance during the drilling cycle is balanced between the central and peripheral inserts the relative position of each insert is optimised to provide outstandingly stable drilling. The economical four sided insert can be used in either central or peripheral positions with two corners for each position (total four corners). A special hard surface treatment gives the drill body added durability enabling long term drilling in a variety of applications including hole widening, spot facing external turning and internal boring. Available with a wide range of inserts for high feed drilling most workpiece materials, a new range of Aurora coat DLC inserts for Aluminium was recently added to the range.
Drilling holes to reamed tolerances a trademark of the world renowned Sumitomo Multi Drill substantially improved with the introduction of the new SMD replaceable head drill featuring radial serration positioning and rigid clamping for high feed high precision drilling. The drill heads feature the world’s first combined super multi layered DEX coating made from alternate layers of substrates comprising TiAlCr and TiSi providing outstanding tool life and performance results. Interchangeable heads for steels, exotic materials, stainless, low rigidity machines, etc are included in the programme
