Horn Cutting Tools Ltd. is the UK subsidiary of Paul Horn GmbH, Europe's leading developer and manufacturer of high technology carbide insert based tooling for precision grooving, groove milling, parting-off, thread milling and broaching applications. Key characteristics of Horn tooling are very high repeatability of insert location, high rigidity of the tool assembly, high productivity, excellent finish and long tool life. In addition the company has amassed huge expertise in the development of special tooling for customer-specific applications; so successful has this part of the business been that many 'specials' have been assimilated into the 'standard' catalogue.
Key product lines include the Horn Supermini range of tooling which pioneered high precision, repeatable machining capability in small diameter bores. Horn remains the world leader in this increasingly important market sector, offering tooling capable of machining in bores as small as 0.2 mm diameter. Similarly the Series 312 triangular grooving insert has become a de facto standard for external grooving applications.
Prominent among the new products on show at Tooling 2011 are System DR high technology reamers and the M275 large diameter groove milling system, and tooling for oil and gas industry pipe threading applications. System DR reamers are manufactured under licence from Urma of Switzerland. The tooling provides a high speed alternative to fine boring using an innovative precision ground multi-tooth disc-type cutting insert. Applications in Europe have demonstrated productivity advantages of up to 12 times compared with older technology and the product has already stimulated interest among leading manufacturing companies in the UK.
Since the Millenium Horn has diversified its range of tooling which now also includes end milling, high feed milling and drilling systems. Almost all of these products are manufactured in a state-of-the-art factory in Tubingen, Germany> However Horn also manufactures in the UK, as well as in France and the USA.
